David Mighty Men: Productivity
- Lesson 6
Intro for this lesson series:
David was being chased by King Saul because he felt threatened by him because of David's success in battle. David eventually found himself in the cave of Adullam, He also began to see men gather with him, 1 Samuel 22:2 says "And everyone that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and everyone that was discontented gathered themselves to him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men."
This group of "social misfits" formed into a battle ready group of warriors. But inside of the four hundred was an elite group of 37 men that became known as David's Mighty Men, to this day Israel would say that they were the best fighting force ever. This group has qualities that we can use today for this battle we find ourselves in...
Let's look at the first quality in today's lesson: Productive
to teach the need for productivity in discipleship
2 Samuel 23:8
Jashobeam must have been very productive to take out 800 men at one time...
Think about what that means. He must have been trained well, in shape, mentally strong and skillful.
Let's look at these four attributes needed to be productive:
He must have been trained (taught) so he could accomplish such a task. If we are going to be productive as sickles we need to seek training.
2 Timothy 3:16 & Ephesians 4:12
Just as the physical health is important so is the mental. He must have been stressed and fatigued mentally. As a disciple of Jesus we need to be in the right "head space"
2 Timothy 1:7, Psalm 42:11 & Psalm 40:1-3
It had to take a lot of effort to killeen 800 men. Can you imagine ? If we are going to be productive as Disciples we need to make Sur our health is ready for the task.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 & 1 Corinthians 10:31
Having skills is not the same as being trained. Think of skills as having a gift. Josheb had to have some gifts (skills) that God gave him such as physical attributes. As a disciple we need to know the skills God has given us and use them for His glory
Ephesians 4:7-8 1 Peter 4:10
1. Do you think you are a productive person?
2. What kind of training are you involved with? What kind should you be seeking?
3. What do you need to do to be made more healthy so you can be more effective?
4. Are you trusting the Lord for your mental wellness?
5. What skills or gifts has God given youth be productive for him?
6. How can you be more productive for Jesus?
