Means of Grace  - Lesson 2

What is the purpose?

 To learn the means of grace

Grace - God's grace is unearned. However we are not to be idle in waiting to experience grace but we are to engage in the means of grace

John Wesley defined grace as God's bounty, or favor; his free undeserved favor.

Means of grace are seperated into 2 groups:
1- Works of Piety

2 - Works of Mercy.

Individual Practices
Reading, meditating, and studying the scriptures, prayer, fasting regulary, attending worship, healthy living, and sharing our faith with other

Communial Practices
Regulary sharing in the sacraments, Chrsitian conferenceing (accountability to one another) & Bible Study

Individual practices
doing good works, visiting the sick, visiting those in prision, feeding the hungry, and giving generously to the needs of others

Communical Practices
seeking justive, ending oppession and discrimination (for instance john wesley challended methodist to end slavery) and addressing the needs of the poor

How: making disciples, growing vital congresations & transforming the world is a part of a spiritural adventure. That is empowered by the Holy Spirit as the church in the means of grace
